Plantar fasciitis

Typically 3 to 6 treatments

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the toes. The usual sign is a stabbing pain near the heel that is often worst with the first steps in the morning.

The Storz DuoLith SD1 is FDA approved for heel pain from chronic plantar fasciitis in adults who have tried other conservative treatments for at least six months.

I have tried almost everything out there for my plantar fasciitis. Wave It Away, after the first couple of treatments, helped tremendously and is still helping very much today (9 months after the treatments)!

TM, plantar fasciitis

I was in the middle of my cross country and football season of my senior year. My plantar fasciitis had gotten so bad I barely could walk and wasn't going to be able to play. I came into Wave It Away and within a week I could see major improvements. By week two it was completely gone. As someone whose whole family has had plantar fasciitis and needed shots and therapy, this was huge to me. Would recommend Wave It Away, and of course you can't beat the service. Thank you Mr. Stephen!!!

Heel spurs

Typically 3 to 6 treatments, sometimes more

A heel spur is a bony growth on the heel bone. It is often linked to shoes that fit poorly, and it can be painful when you stand or walk.

Achilles tendinopathy

Typically 4 treatments

Achilles tendinopathy is an injury of the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. It is common in runners and in people who play sports mostly on weekends. Heel pain and tenderness are the main symptoms.

Common symptoms

  • Pain in the morning
  • Pain along the back of the heel when active
  • Swelling that comes and goes
  • Pain the day after exercise

Morton's neuroma

Typically 6 treatments

Morton's neuroma is a thickening of the tissue around a nerve in the ball of the foot, most often between the third and fourth toes. It causes sharp, burning pain or numbness in the ball of the foot or the toes. Runners and people who wear high heels are the most likely to develop it.

Ball-of-foot pain (metatarsalgia)

Metatarsalgia is pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot. It often shows up in people who run, walk a lot, or play court sports.

I had suffered with metatarsalgia for the past 6 months and found that playing tennis and taking daily walks were no longer enjoyable due to the discomfort. After receiving 3 treatments with the DuoLith Shock Wave Therapy, my foot pain has nearly subsided. I am very pleased and optimistic that my foot inflammation is now under control. It feels wonderful to get back doing the activities that I love.

How treatment works

Focused shockwave therapy

Focused shockwave therapy sends short pulses of acoustic energy into an injured tendon, muscle, or other soft tissue. The goal is to increase blood flow and support healing in an area that has stopped improving on its own. We use the Storz Medical DuoLith SD1.

There is no surgery, no anesthesia, and no injection. Most patients feel a tingling or tapping sensation during the session, and our nurse adjusts the energy for your comfort. You can go back to work or your normal routine right after.

Before you start

Shockwave therapy is not right for everyone. We do not treat people who are pregnant, have hemophilia, have had steroid injections in the last six weeks, or are still growing (incomplete bone growth). We will ask about your health and medicines, and a licensed physician reviews your answers before treatment.

Shockwave treatment works by encouraging a healing response, so we may ask you to avoid anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen during your treatment course. Do not stop any prescribed medicine without talking to your doctor first.

About FDA status. The Storz DuoLith SD1 is FDA approved for heel pain from chronic plantar fasciitis in adults who have tried other conservative treatments for at least six months. Using it for other conditions is considered off-label. Our medical director reviews your health history before treatment, and results vary from person to person.
