How treatment works

Focused shockwave therapy

Focused shockwave therapy sends short pulses of acoustic energy into an injured tendon, muscle, or other soft tissue. The goal is to increase blood flow and support healing in an area that has stopped improving on its own. We use the Storz Medical DuoLith SD1.

There is no surgery, no anesthesia, and no injection. Most patients feel a tingling or tapping sensation during the session, and our nurse adjusts the energy for your comfort. You can go back to work or your normal routine right after.

Another option to talk through

Surgery, slings, and boots can keep you out of the activities you enjoy for weeks or months, and pain medicine can leave you tired or foggy. Focused shockwave therapy is a non-surgical option for pain that has not improved with rest or other care.

  • No surgery, anesthesia, or injections
  • No added medication
  • No downtime, so you can go back to your day
  • Visits of about 30 minutes in a private room
  • A plan reviewed by our medical director

We also treat many sports injuries and other painful conditions not listed here. Ask us about yours.

Before you start

Shockwave therapy is not right for everyone. We do not treat people who are pregnant, have hemophilia, have had steroid injections in the last six weeks, or are still growing (incomplete bone growth). We will ask about your health and medicines, and a licensed physician reviews your answers before treatment.

Shockwave treatment works by encouraging a healing response, so we may ask you to avoid anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen during your treatment course. Do not stop any prescribed medicine without talking to your doctor first.

About FDA status. The Storz DuoLith SD1 is FDA approved for heel pain from chronic plantar fasciitis in adults who have tried other conservative treatments for at least six months. Using it for other conditions is considered off-label. Our medical director reviews your health history before treatment, and results vary from person to person.

Patient stories

What patients tell us

I've had severe lower back pain for many years. Wave It Away has reduced my pain level by at least 90% and I still have 3 more treatments scheduled. 99% less pain equals 200% improved quality of life. Definitely worth it!

MB, lower back pain

I have tried almost everything out there for my plantar fasciitis. Wave It Away, after the first couple of treatments, helped tremendously and is still helping very much today (9 months after the treatments)!

TM, plantar fasciitis

I developed a chronic injury in the ligaments of my elbow, called tennis elbow. I had pain every time I used my elbow to twist or lift. I underwent treatment with DuoLith shockwave therapy that has greatly improved my elbow. I saw improvements after the first few sessions.

CL, tennis elbow

I have had intermittent, chronic, low back spasms due to a weightlifting injury, years ago. The shockwave treatments have greatly reduced the pain and discomfort. Much fewer episodes of low back spasm. Much less severe when they happen. One of the best investments of my money ever.
