Hip flexor strain

Typically 4 to 6 treatments

The hip flexors are the muscles that run across the front of the hip and into the groin. They help you bend forward at the waist, squat, and pull your knee up toward your body. A strain or small tears in these muscles cause pain with those movements.

This was a daily pain! Neither yoga, stretching, nor massage helped this at all. The treatments repaired the tendon sheath; the muscle now goes through easily. I have not thought of these in months!

Inner thigh (adductor) pain

Scar tissue or tightness in the inner thigh muscles can limit how far you can stretch and cause a binding, pulling feeling.

I had scar tissue in my inner thigh; it would keep me from stretching out; it would bind up like a cord stretched too tight. After the treatments, that pain and “bound feeling” is now gone.

Chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain

Typically 4 to 6 treatments

Chronic prostatitis, also called chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS), is a painful condition of the prostate area that can get worse over time. It may involve body aches, lower back pain, burning during urination, and trouble emptying the bladder completely.

How treatment works

Focused shockwave therapy

Focused shockwave therapy sends short pulses of acoustic energy into an injured tendon, muscle, or other soft tissue. The goal is to increase blood flow and support healing in an area that has stopped improving on its own. We use the Storz Medical DuoLith SD1.

There is no surgery, no anesthesia, and no injection. Most patients feel a tingling or tapping sensation during the session, and our nurse adjusts the energy for your comfort. You can go back to work or your normal routine right after.

Before you start

Shockwave therapy is not right for everyone. We do not treat people who are pregnant, have hemophilia, have had steroid injections in the last six weeks, or are still growing (incomplete bone growth). We will ask about your health and medicines, and a licensed physician reviews your answers before treatment.

Shockwave treatment works by encouraging a healing response, so we may ask you to avoid anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen during your treatment course. Do not stop any prescribed medicine without talking to your doctor first.

About FDA status. The Storz DuoLith SD1 is FDA approved for heel pain from chronic plantar fasciitis in adults who have tried other conservative treatments for at least six months. Using it for other conditions is considered off-label. Our medical director reviews your health history before treatment, and results vary from person to person.
